…As 8-year-old boy dies of ‘internal bleeding’ fever.
A rare and deadly disease that causes severe internal bleeding has tragically killed an eight-year-old boy in Jamaica.
Dr. Christopher Tufton, Jamaica’s health minister, said the boy was killed by dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) – a lethal viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes.
If left untreated, the Ebola-like disease can cause excruciating abdominal pain, bleeding and bruising under the skin and a shock-like state that can kill.
In 1987, a large epidemic of the disease struck down an estimated 174,000 across Thailand, killing at least 1,000, according to the figures show.
The Jamaican health authorities have launched an investigation into the death of the boy (a boy who still have not been identified),
who was pronounced dead at the Bustamante Hospital for Children last week.
This type of dengue carries a high risk of mortality,” Dr. Tufton said.
“Appropriate notification has been done, and the Kingston and St Andrew health team are out conducting its surveillance.”
